Gas Taxes: Time to Raise Them

From the New York Times:

"Leave aside that suspending the 18.4-cent-a-gallon excise tax would cost the deficit-burdened federal government $9 billion and that turning a tax off in May and on in September would be an administrative nightmare.

"Even leave aside that nixing the gas tax would increase demand for gasoline — exactly the wrong response to global warming and rising energy prices."

Exactly.

And these are precisely the reasons why we must also fight for higher food taxes as well.

Do you have any idea how much the absence of a 90% food tax is costing the federal government? And worse, the lack of such a tax is encouraging Amerikkkans (who are already fat enough) to deplete our food supply at epidemic and exponential rates.

What sort of message DO we want to send to our children? That they should EAT?

No one should drive or eat. Or, for that matter, be permitted to accelerate global warming by A) Wearing new clothing, and B) Using soap. These are also items that must be conserved. If we use soap, we'll lose soap.

Why can't we just replace the U.S. Congress with the Times editorial board?

Professor, I have just found your blog. The fact it has existed for 2 years without me finding it is proof positive that the corporate media elements in power are conspiring with Google to prevent people from finding your site. Your website should come up first on EVERY search no matter the topic.

I have much to learn and am slowly going through each of your posts. I was wondering if you will ever pursue a fourth PhD.? The reason I ask is because I was telling a right wing christofascist about your wisdom and he said "3 PhDs?.. so what, Petraeus has 4 stars!!" I wasn't sure how to answer that so I ran away. I am considering a hate crime lawsuit against him though.

Google is, in fact, controlled by Mister Bush, who, as we know, is controlled by the Zionist Entity, which as we know, has me in their crosshairs.

This is not a conspiracy, but is instead an irrefutable fact.

The monster Ariel Sharon is only playing dead. It too is a plan to defeat me.

Dr. (x3) Kurgman,

This particular Zionist was unaware that conspiracy and "irrefutable fact" were antonyms. But alas, I only have on Ph.D (my dissertation examined the most efficient ways of oppressing Palestinians). But yes, indeed, we have you in our crosshairs, sir. Be afraid. Be VERY afraid.
